Julius birthday. Just was not looking forward to it. I am realising that looking forward to the future is not a very good plan. My own view is frightening, but I am also learning that I can expect God to come through in ways I cannot imagine. If only I can rest in Him and trust that He is Sovereign and in absolute control and that He has a plan and that it is good.
I go back to Psalm 77 and I am holding on to His promise to me, that just like He led the nation of Israel through the sea, on a pathway that no one knew was there, He is going to lead me through this sea of pain and grief and loneliness.
Your road led through the
sea, your pathway through the mighty waters—a pathway
no one knew was there!
Psalm 77:19-20 NLT
Let me share with you dear reader, how
He opened a path for me to face what could have a been a very painful day. When
I woke up, I had a great sense of sadness, memories of past years, when the
phone rang constantly with family and friends calling, a party planned, Julius,
happy and always so grateful for the love and gifts he received from us and everyone who
remembered.
The day he went home to be with His
Father, Julius was reading Jeremiah 6 and he had shared it with me and he left
these verses underlined in his NLT Bible:
This is what the Lord says: “Stop
at the crossroads and look around. Ask for the old, godly way, and walk in it. Travel
its path, and you will find rest for your souls. Jeremiah 6:16
The women of our church are going through
what is called the 3Cord accountability. What this means is that they follow a
pre-set calendar of chapters that they read through the year and they are accountable
in groups of 3 to read and study the attributes of God.
The reading for this particular day was Jeremiah
6 – the very verses he had underlined. When I heard this I fell to my knees in
worship and awe. The Bible is a big book and the calendar is pre-set for the
women at the beginning of the year. Who but a gracious God could time this
verse for this day? I am so overwhelmed at His very personal touch and
reminders of His constant care and love. Was this a coincidence? No not at all.
This was the Hand of a Sovereign God who was touching down and lifting me up.
Loved one, I pray that as you read about my
journey with God that you are also encouraged. Know that He cares, He is true
to His Word and He Knows all that you are going through. The road is uphill but
remember that He allowed His Son to walk it before you did. He knows the way
because He has been there already.
For we do not have a high priest who
is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has
been tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us then with confidence
draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to
help in time of need. Hebrews 4:15-16
